May wrap up (2020)

My May wrap up featuring all of the books I read in May and their ratings. Including Only Mostly Devasted by Sophie Gonzales and The Betrothed by Kiera Cass.

Hello! In today’s blog post we’ll be talking about the books I read in May. However before we get started I wanted to share a link to a website where a ton of petitions and donation places are grouped for the Black Lives Matter movement. I beg you to go sign all the petitions and donate some money, if you can. See this website: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/

In this blog post I’ll go through all of the books I read in May, and some statistics regarding those books.

In May I managed to read 11 books, which is way more than I had expected. I also dnf’ed two books and I won’t be counting those books in my stats.

In total I read 3119 pages over those 11 books, the average page count for a book I read in May was 284, which means I read a lot of short books! My average rating for this month was 3.55 out of 5, which is my lowest average rating of 2020.

Genre wise I read very diverse. I read 3 historical fictions, 2 contemporaries, 2 non-fiction books, 1 fantasy, 1 thriller, 1 graphic novel and 1 mystery novel. For the age range I read 10 YA books and 1 adult book, which is quite shocking to me since I usually read more than 1 adult book in a month.

For the formats I read those 11 books in, I read 5 audiobooks, 4 e-books, 1 physical book and for 1 book I switched between the audiobook and the e-book. Out of those 11 books I read 6 via Scribd, 4 were gifted to me and only 1 I bought myself. So I’m not really making a great dent in my physical TBR…

And that was it for the stats, now I’ll get to all of the books I read, which rating I gave them (out of 5) and I’ll also link my review if I have one.

  • The Strange Case of The Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss – 3.75 – review
  • Only Mostly Devasted by Sophie Gonzales – 4.5 – review
  • Short Stories from Hogwarts on Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies by J.K. Rowling – 3.5
  • A Study in Charlotte by Britanny Cavellaro – 3.75
  • The Betrothed by Kiera Cass – 2.5 – review (Dutch)
  • The Little Book of Self-Care for Cancer by Constance Stellas – 3
  • Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi – 3.75
  • You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sara Pekkanen – 3.75
  • The Vinyl Underground by Rob Rufus – 3.75 – review
  • What Would Boudicca Do? by Elizabeth Foley – 3
  • I Left the House Today by Casssandra Calin – 4

My favourite audiobook of the month was Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi and my favourite physical read (also counting e-books) was Only Mostly Devasted by Sophie Gonzales. As you can see there were no 5 star reads for me this month, which is quite unusual. That’s why I also don’t think any of these books will make it to my favourites of the year list. The only one that has a chance of ending up there is Only Mostly Devasted, just because I don’t tend to give contemporaries 5 stars.

How many books did you manage to read in May? Any new favourites?
